Meet our counselors

Meet our founder, Rachel Otis

I accept and welcome clients from all walks of life, all gender and identity expressions, all races, ethnicities, religions, and ages who are seeking support & looking to explore their mind-body connection further.

I work through a trauma-informed, relational, body-positive/fat acceptance, and intersectional feminist lens with diverse populations including indigenous, Queer & chronically ill/disabled (as I also identify with those communities personally).

My Approach

I am passionate about utilizing the unique healing power of the mind-body connection, which somatic therapy allows to come to life in so many modalities. It is easy to live in the survival mode of our stories, repeating past traumas, but it takes work to create a new pathway to thriving- and I’m here to support you in that journey! It isn’t always going to be easy, although there will be magical moments, but I whole-heartedly believe that it will bring you to a greater understanding and appreciation of yourself and the world around you.

My Background

Rachel Otis graduated from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco with their Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and a concentration in Somatic Psychotherapy. Since then she has started their own private practice that allows for tele-therapy to connect with clients worldwide, focusing on the mind-body connection in which they combine her passion for: body justice, human rights, & intersectional feminism with their love of somatic interventions, resources, & tools.

Meet Jayce (Jess) Gutzcohen

Jayce Gutzcohen (they/them, ze/zir) graduated from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA with a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Art Therapy

"I approach counseling using everything life has taught me to support you in your journey, whatever that journey may be. As a disabled community member, I have fought for disability justice for 10 years and counting. I am also an artist, creating art that speaks to how I view the world uniquely through my queer, Jewish, disabled, autistic lens. With a combination of education from schooling and working with many different populations, and education from lived experience, I specialize in supporting those addressing eating disorders, neurodiversity, living with chronic illness and/or disability, living trans and/or queer, Jewish identity, and complex and generational trauma."

HOW I CAN SUPPORT YOUR HEALING PROCESS

As a therapist, I consider my role to be your support net, allowing you to walk the tightrope of processing what’s on your mind: with me there to help catch you when it brings up pain. As an art therapist trained among music, drama, and dance therapists, I have a great appreciation for how we can use alternative forms of expression as part of the therapeutic journey. Words are only one form of expression, and they can be a great one, but sometimes you need a little something else. I work to create a therapeutic environment that allows for all forms of expression, allowing use of mind, body, and creativity together in healing. I invite you to process in whatever way feels right for you; sometimes that’s laughing, sometimes it’s crying, sometimes it’s trying something new.

What we need in mental health care

To me, decolonizing mental healthcare means recognizing all the areas of oppression in our modern society and addressing how those structures are mimicked in our mental healthcare systems. When it comes to individual therapy, this means each client should be able to find a therapist that has lived experience in the area of care that client is hoping to work through. I look forward to joining you on your unique journey, as a new member of your support team.
